Cut a Rama comes to West Wyalong this Saturday for the RFDS

01 Jun 2021

Just Cuts is once again ‘Doing it for the Doctor’, holding the annual Cut a Rama fundraising night this year in West Wyalong at the Metropolitan Hotel on Saturday June 5 to kick-off the Outback Car Trek and raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

From 7pm the night before the Trek commences, Just Cuts Stylists from Sydney will work to create bold hair styles and colours for the drivers to last their 7 day car journey through the outback.

Since partnering with the RFDS in 1998, Just Cuts Clients and Stylists have raised over $500,000 for the charity through the annual Cut a Rama event and donation boxes in 190 salons across Australia.

Just Cuts Founder Denis McFadden is looking forward to his 21st Cut a Rama, and is calling on West Wyalong locals to come down to the pub and celebrate with a new do and support the RFDS.

“From Mohawks to leopard spots and logos, Just Cuts Stylists do it all for the Doctor,” said Denis.

“I encourage locals to come down and get shaved, get creative, get styled and join the fun this Saturday –we’ll have plenty of colour sprays to cover up any greys you might be sick of seeing.”

Every year ‘Trekkers’ undertake a journey across rural and remote towns to raise awareness of the disadvantages regional Australians face when trying to access simple medical treatment.

In many remote communities, the RFDS is the sole healthcare and emergency service provider.

“People living in regional Australia can live hours and hours from medical care,” added Denis.

“The RFDS is a lifesaver as people can call them for anything from falling off a horse or injuring themselves on farm equipment. The RFDS can then provide advice or come and provide assistance.”

While the 2021 Cut a Rama will be on a smaller scale due to COVID, Denis says the RFDS remains more important than ever for regional Australians and their families and is asking the people of West Wyalong to come out this Saturday and support the Just Cuts fundraising drive at the Metropolitan.

“The RFDS are the GPs of regional Australia, with a waiting room that spans millions of kilometres.”

“COVID has not changed their need for our support to help fund the critical health services they provide that so many of us city dwellers take for granted,” added Denis.

Cut a Rama festivities and hair styling will start at 7pm on Saturday June 5 at the Metropolitan Hotel.

The Outback Trek will begin the next morning and concludes on Saturday 12 June in Port Macquarie.
