Just Cuts Garden City switching salons overnight on March 11th

After ten years in business at Westfield Garden City, Just Cuts Franchise Owner Michael Mercer says he is switching sites because COVID-19 has permanently changed the local business landscape.

“We’re moving to a premium site right next to the food court,” says Michael. “It’s more attractive to me because our no appointments, just walk in business model suits high foot traffic locations.”

Michael says there will be no shutdown period between switching salon sites in the centre.

“My team of 8 Stylists and the Just Cuts Academy have coordinated really well to ensure when we close the existing site at 5:30pm on Wednesday evening, we can reopen at the new site Thursday morning at 9am.”

“We want to maintain the confidence our clients have in our salon, so the same social distancing procedures and regular sanitisation measures will still apply as normal in the new salon.”

Michael says that while COVID-19 has seen a resurgence in mullets, the main change from the pandemic is the reduction in time people are spending, both in salon and shopping centres.

“Thursday night business has dropped 50%, and weekends have dropped overall – our weekdays are much busier than pre COVID19 trading” says Michael.

“People are coming in throughout the weekdays and coming in much earlier on weekends. Pre-COVID there’d be a stream of people across Saturday and Sunday at all hours, now it quietens down after lunchtime from big morning peaks. Shoppers aren’t spending a day in the centre anymore.”

Michael says ‘lockdown lag’ has been a problem for Brisbane small business, as it took time for Clients to get confident and come back to shopping centres again after the last lockdown.

“Clients want to get in and out as fast as possible. We’ve had a lot of new clients come to us from full service salons who don’t want to sit round for hours, that just doesn’t suit the new normal.”

Michael says his focus remains safe hygiene practices and delivering quality Style Cuts for Clients.

“A Just Cuts app is available for clients who would like to check themselves and their families into the queue before entering the salon, as well as an in-salon self Check-In kiosk.

“My team and I can’t wait to meet everyone in our new salon from 9am on March 11th.”

The new Just Cuts Garden City will offer Style Cuts at $19.95 (normally $35) for the first 6 weeks.

The first 30 Clients through the doors on Grand Opening day will receive free Style Cuts.

More about Just Cuts

Just Cuts is an Australian hairdressing franchise that bridges the gap between a barber and a high end hair salon. With salons in every state of Australia, on both the North and South islands New Zealand and the United Kingdom, it is the largest hairdressing company in the Southern Hemisphere. Based on a fixed price, no appointment system, Just Cuts offers clients affordable haircuts from fully qualified hairdressers and performs over 100,000 Style Cut cuts per week across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Celebrating 30 years in 2020, Just Cuts was the brainchild of Denis McFadden, who turned a simple idea into a business concept that would change the hairdressing industry forever. McFadden ran his first ever “no appointment, $6 Style Cut” promotion at his humble Sydney salon, receiving an outstanding response from clients. It was on this basic fixed price initiative that the idea of Just Cuts was born. The following year, the inaugural Just Cuts salon opened its door to the public. And in 1990, the first Just Cuts franchise opened in the suburb of Engadine, in the south of Sydney, New South Wales. Our brand has continued to expand ever since, with over 220 locations across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

In 2013, Just Cuts launched JUSTICE Professional – a range of salon quality haircare and styling products available exclusively in all our salons at a competitive, affordable price. The JUSTICE Professional line has something for everyone, including everyday shampoos and conditioners, anti-dandruff and dry scalp treatments, toning products, nourishing leave-in treatments and a range of hair styling waxes and sprays.
